Star Wars: The Deckbuilding Game
The Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire are engaged in an epic struggle for control of the galaxy, a conflict that has been captured in countless forms of media over the years. Now, fans of the Star Wars franchise have a new way to immerse themselves in this iconic conflict with Star Wars: The Deckbuilding Game. In this easy-to-learn game, two players each choose their side, playing as either the Empire or the Rebels, and collect cards to strengthen the power of their starting decks. The goal of the game is to destroy each other’s bases. The first player to destroy three of their opponent’s bases wins the game.
The game begins with each player choosing a unique ten-card deck, with seven of those cards providing only resources to acquire new cards. The remaining three cards are more powerful, with the Rebel player starting with Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo, while the Empire player begins with Darth Vader, the Emperor, and Boba Fett. Six cards from a galaxy deck are always on display, with Rebel cards facing the Rebel player, Empire cards the Empire player, and neutral cards turned sideways. Players can spend resources to acquire cards in the galaxy row that don’t belong to the opponent, and they can use attack power to take out cards that do belong to them, gaining a reward in the process.
Each player starts with a base that lacks abilities, but when that base is destroyed, they get to choose a replacement from their base deck, with each base having a special ability. Choosing the right base is crucial to counter your opponent’s plans, so players must be strategic in their decision-making. In addition to having special abilities, capital ships absorb damage meant for your base, adding another layer of strategy to the game. Players also fight for control of a Force track to gain additional resources or make use of “If the Force is with you…” abilities on their cards.
