2023 is really turning out to be the year that video games and board games unite. An example of this movement is Homeworld: Fleet command, a beautiful and sprawling space battle based on the video game series Homeworld. With over 100 miniatures and expansions on the horizon, this game is beautifully designed and sprawling. Homeworld Fleet Command is produced through partnership between game publisher Modiphius and video game publisher Gearbox Entertainment.
Homeworld: Fleet Command
Homeworld Fleet Command is a tactical miniatures board game designed for competitive play. Players take on the role of admirals for either the Kushan or Taiiidan fleets, and battle for control across the stars. With access to a diverse range of ships including fighters, corvettes, frigates, destroyers, and capital ships, players can strategically command their fleets in the fight for supremacy. The game is designed for 1-4 players and is said to be modular, so if you have multiple copies of the game you can play them together.

Homeworld Video Game
Homeworld is a real-time strategy game developed by Relic Entertainment that was released in 1999. It’s a science fiction game that follows the Kushan exiles of the planet Kharak as they journey through space to reclaim their home. Homeworld features a fully three-dimensional space allowing for a freedom of movement. In each level, players must gather resources, build a fleet and use it to destroy enemy ships to accomplish mission objectives. The player’s fleet carries over between levels, allowing for a sense of continuity.
Homeworld sold over 500,000 copies in its first six months. It was listed by Metacritic as the highest rated computer game of 1999. The success of Homeworld sparked the creation of three more games in the series. Gearbox Software later purchased the rights to and released a remastered collection in 2015. Gearbox more recently announced the development of Homeworld 3, slated for a 2023 release date.
