Dream home is a lightweight card drafting and tile laying game where you build a home. This is a title we’ve come back to when introducing new players to the board game hobby.
Dream Home by Z-Man Games
Dream Home is a board game that uses a combination of card drafting and tile-laying mechanics to design a home. This one has been a hit in our groups with gamers who are new to board games. It’s a light board game that plays with 2-4 players for 30-60 minutes. In Dream Home players take on the role of home builders, competing to build the most desirable homes. Players must purchase land, build houses, and decorate them to attract the most valuable tenants. The player with the most valuable set of tenants and houses at the end of the game wins.
How it Plays
In Dream Home, players start with a small amount of money and must use it to purchase land and build houses on it. Each player has a personal board where they can place their houses and tenants. The game is divided into two phases: the construction phase and the scoring phase.
In the construction phase, players take turns selecting cards from a common pool. These cards represent different types of land, houses, and decor. Players must use the cards they select to build houses on their land. They can also buy decor items to make their houses more appealing to tenants.
Scoring and Bonuses
In the scoring phase, players score points based on the value of the tenants they have attracted to their houses. Tenants have different values, and players can attract more valuable tenants by building bigger and better houses and decorating them with high-value decor items.
Players can also earn bonuses by building houses with specific configurations or by attracting tenants of specific types. The game ends after a predetermined number of rounds, and the player with the most points at the end of the game wins.
Light for Game Night
Dream Home is a fast-paced game that offers a good balance between strategy and luck. It’s been successful with new board gamers on game nights and with our younger family members who prefer a lighter board game. Dream Home on BGG
